Concept & Approach

Concept

This luxury dining space was conceived as a stage for entertaining a room that commands attention and creates an immediate sense of occasion the moment you enter. The design language draws from contemporary Art Deco influences, marrying bold geometric forms with rich material combinations including Calacatta marble, brushed brass, dark stained walnut, and deep velvet upholstery. The colour palette centres on a dramatic interplay of champagne, deep emerald, and warm charcoal tones that together create a sense of depth and theatricality. The bespoke dining table, designed and fabricated exclusively for this project, serves as the spatial centrepiece a sculptural object as much as a functional piece of furniture.

Challenges

Designing a luxury dining space that feels genuinely exclusive without becoming cold or unwelcoming presented a significant design challenge. Many high-end dining interiors err towards formality at the expense of comfort, creating spaces that feel more like showrooms than rooms in which people genuinely want to linger. A further challenge was the integration of the room's technical requirements a fully specced audio-visual system, integrated wine storage, and a butler's service area without these practical elements disrupting the visual purity of the design.

Solutions

Warmth was introduced through the careful selection of materials that are visually luxurious but tactilely inviting velvet chair upholstery, a hand-laid stone floor with a subtle radiant heat system beneath, and deeply grained timber wall panelling that adds acoustic softness to the space. The technical and service elements were resolved through bespoke millwork: the wine storage and butler's preparation area were seamlessly incorporated into a full-height panelled wall unit that reads as pure architecture from the dining room itself, with a concealed pivoting door providing discreet access.

Suggestions

  • Statement Chandelier: A custom sculptural chandelier in brass and hand-blown glass positioned to create a dramatic focal point above the dining table and cast a warm ambient glow across the entire space.
  • Marble Feature Wall: A full-height bookmatched Calacatta marble panel behind the main seating position creates an extraordinary backdrop and elevates the perceived value of the entire room.
  • Bespoke Joinery: Full-height panelled wall units in dark stained walnut house concealed wine storage, display niches, and the butler's service area, maintaining visual coherence throughout.
  • Acoustic Design: Deep pile rugs, upholstered wall panels, and heavy window dressings were specified to manage reverberation and create an intimate acoustic environment.
  • Integrated AV: State-of-the-art audio and visual systems were invisibly integrated into the ceiling and cabinetry, allowing the space to transform from an elegant dining room to a cinematic entertainment environment.

Final Outcome

The finished luxury dining space is a powerful demonstration of what is possible when material quality, spatial composition, and craft are elevated to the highest level. The room has an undeniable presence dramatic yet warm, theatrical yet intimate. The client's brief called for a space that would make guests feel genuinely special from the moment they arrived, and this has been achieved without question. The concealed service infrastructure operates flawlessly, allowing dinners to be served and enjoyed without any interruption to the atmosphere of the room. This project stands as one of our most celebrated residential commissions to date.
